We notice the torque difference when we swap his 1190s for my 1290. 1290 has slightly better wind protection. 1190 aftermarket cruise works better than my stock 1290. Stock crash bars on 1290 are good. Zero on 1190s. Just my experience riding with an inmate and his 1190s. I haven't ridden an 1190r.
Ultimately, the KTM 1190 Adventure R is a brilliant bike, great fun to ride and incredibly versatile with most of its flaws being easy to fix. If you want to go adventure riding on a timescale they’re comfy enough to smash out 1000km days on the motorway while having the ability to ride deep into the wilds once you arrive.

In retrospect, that thought kind of made sense given the fact that the mill tucked beneath the 1290’s new tank design is an iteration of the Super Duke’s 1301cc V-Twin – the naked bike dubbed by KTM marketing folks as “the beast.” And beastly it is. Centre stand €100-150 depending on where you buy from. Aux lights €400 for the KTM ones. A potentially better skid plate. Weight without the add-ons is the same.
